Garden Outdoor Furniture Care
The garden outdoor furniture that you own needs to be cared for just as the furniture inside your home. For stubborn dirt or stains use a sponge drenched with water and mild soap. This washing should probably be done at the beginning of each outdoor season. Make sure the all nuts, bolts, and screws are tightened; replace any that are broken, rusted, or missing. If your furniture has hinges or wheels, grease them with a silicone lubricant. If you lubricate with oil it will usually cake up and attracts dirt.
Wooden furniture may need a coating of sealer and outdoor finish. Between seasons wood furniture can also be washed with the mild soap and water solution. Some wood furniture needs to be stored away during the winter with the exception of teak outdoor furniture or cedar outdoor furniture; these two woods hold up quite well all year long. Redwood furniture is another type that is weather resistant although it may split and it will turn grey within a year. If you prefer the natural color of redwood as opposed to the grey you can apply a redwood stain and then a sealer to keep its beautiful color. Before you apply the stain wash the furniture and replace any needed hardware; lightly sand, dust, and wipe clean.
Wicker garden furniture will stay shiny, resist stain and remain waterproof if you regularly apply a wax and wood oil soap. For daily cleaning you can use a soapy sponge and toothbrush for the hard to reach areas. If the paint starts eating away due to exposure an outdoor spray paint can be applied. All weather wicker patio furniture may be weather-resistant, but it can dry out if exposed to the sun too long. If you want to put moisture back into the wicker soak the furniture in water once yearly. This furniture will last longer if you keep it in the shade. You will need to wash and refinish wicker garden outdoor furniture every once in a while to keep in good condition. Wrought iron, steel, and aluminum framed outdoor furniture can also be washed with the mild soap and water treatment.
Resin garden outdoor furniture is the easiest type of furniture to maintain. It is made to cope with the elements and a mild soap and water cleaning will work fine. Staining is a possibility of water is left standing on the tabletops or seats so drying off after the rain and wiping away wet leaves will help. In order for resin outdoor furniture to remain shiny use orange oil or auto polish.
